1. Divert Food Waste: UPCYCLE
In 2018, more than 1.8 billion tons of food went into the waste stream. We can help to change that.
Coffee is the seed of a fruit, commonly referred to as a coffee cherry. For generations, farmers have discarded the fruit once the bean is removed because there was no value in it. Since 2013, we have been dedicated to working with our farmer partner, Aida Batlle, to purchase that discarded fruit so we can brew it like an herbal tea and help to reduce food waste in El Salvador (and the world), contributing to a healthier, more sustainable environment at the source and beyond.
2. Support Growers & Communities: DIRECT SOURCING
By purchasing a once-discarded product, we can create a second revenue stream for our farmer partner. We purchase directly at nearly 4 times the Fair Trade price of coffee, which supports financial sustainability for them and for the community in which they live.
